November 14th is World Diabetes Awareness Day.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM): A Modern Insidious Enemy for human health.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 463 million people already suffer from DM type 2. It is estimated that this number will double by 2030. In Greece, 8-9% of the population suffers from DM. Type 2 DM is on the rise due to the modern lifestyle characterized by reduced physical activity and increased caloric intake through highly processed foods.
Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized either by reduced insulin secretion or by its inefficient action resulting in increased blood glucose values. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas.
